The Department of Sociology at the University of Aberdeen enjoys a reputation as one of the leading centres for the study of sociology in the United Kingdom (UK), being recognised both nationally and internationally for the outstanding quality of its teaching as well as its research. Recent assessments of sociology departments in the UK ranked the department very highly, as no less than 5th in the UK in the latest Complete University Guide (2017). The most recent national assessment of teaching quality judged us as ‘Excellent’, the highest mark attainable while, in terms of research quality, we were ranked us as joint sixth in the UK in the current national research assessment and one of the top two departments in Scotland.
